Know Everything About Weaves of Benaras

The quote Make in India has been quite popular in the Maharashtra’s streets. A simple hashtag of #MakeinIndia would instantly present a lion logo- a symbol that is the brainchild of V Sunil. Being the leader of this campaign, he specifically chose this symbol due its distinct visual omnipresence.

A grand replay of Benaras

Apart from witnessing couples, the day witnessed one of the biggest fashion events of India namely the Weaves of Benaras. Held at Parel’s ITC Grand Central, this fashion event was held with the association of Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI). Held with the primary initiative of Make in India, Weaves of Benaras was definitely an event not to be missed. Fashion enthusiasts from around India were present here.

Going along with the theme, marigolds, earthen pots and mogras were present everywhere. Getting associated with the Hindusthani music, lassis, pakoras and samosas were also offered. The entire scenario was actually quite ethnic enough to transport the Mumbaikars back to the holy city.

Ethnic meets creativity

With this backdrop, 12 veteran designers, made their own presentation with their view of Benaras Weaves. For creating 12 distinct styles, each designer stuck to a palette. It comprised of neutral colours and of course red and gold. The pant suits of Rajesh Pratap Singh, with its culottes, presented a modern turn. On the other hand, we had the old world romance of Sabyasachi, that weaved back time. At the same time, the couture of Anita Dongre as well as of Anju Modi, presented the current bridal trends. Contrasting these, were the skirts of Abraham and Thakore. Their usage of jute-meets-brocade highlighted their creativity of bringing two different elements together. JJ Valaya, the popular fashion guru, said that the event gave him a special chance. A chance to showcase his love and his long-term relationship with the Benaras city.

As said by the President of FDCI, Sunil Sethi, lately fashion is taken quite seriously. He even stated that it is the first time that the Ministry of Commerce, Make in India and the Department of Industrial Policy have presented such a platform. He goes on saying that finally designers are being recognised to be making in India, something which they have been doing since years.
