The organizers of NEIFW or the North East India Fashion Week have announced that the second edition of the fashion week has been scheduled in June at Itanagar. This announcement was made at a press conference held at Press Point, Supermarket Dimapur.
NEIFW is an initiative of a Guwahati-based firm, Affluent Ray of Light (ARL). The main idea behind NEIFW is to offer a platform to designers, weavers and craftsmen from North-East allowing them to showcase their skills, creativity and talent. The event also aims at empowering the North-East women by offering them a networking opportunity and by facilitating B2B and buyers. The organizers have plans of putting up stalls where designers can exhibit their eye-catching and ethnic designs and handloom collections.
The three day event will start on 3rd June and continue till 5h June. During the five hours of the event models will walk the ramp in dresses and accessories which have been designed by upcoming designers. The idea is to catch the attention of the potential buyers and creating business opportunities for industries that are linked to textile fashion and retailing handloom. The main feature of the event is to promote and support craftsmen and weavers from all backgrounds whose innovative ideas reflect the ethnicity and culture of the North-East.
According to an official release, Yana Ngoba, the Chief Operating Officer of ARL added that the idea behind organizing the fashion week was to promote handloom and handicraft of North-East India. The pre-promotion party of the fashion week was held at Pub De Blues where short teasers about the upcoming event were unveiled by the designers. Sources have revealed that the young and new fashion designers created a strong impression with their modern fusion styles. The spectators present at the pre promotion party were enthralled with the styles which were unravelled.
It is being predicted that close to 34 designers across the North-Eastern states and the rest of India will take part in the event. Some designers who will participate in the event includes Gloria Ovung, Doichong Buchem, Suliya Swu, Techi Yapar, Milli Indra Dangngo, Ongtiong Kichu and Rupert Wanlambok Lynrah to name a few.
